Following its official designation as India’s second UNESCO City of Gastronomy, Lucknow’s culinary scene is in the spotlight for 2026. Local leaders and culinary experts are focusing on promoting “authentic food legacies” hidden in the city’s bylanes, expecting a significant boom in global food tourism throughout the year.

The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) is preparing to launch its largest-ever residential scheme in the planned UP IT City this month. The project, located on Sultanpur Road, includes approximately 10,000 residential plots and aims to support a population of nearly 100,000 people within a “walk-to-work” technology ecosystem.

East-West Metro Corridor: Construction for the highly anticipated 11.2 km East-West corridor, connecting Charbagh to Vasant Kunj through densely populated areas like Aminabad and Chowk, is expected to begin in February or March 2026.Gomti Water Metro: A feasibility report for a Water Metro service on the Gomti River has been cleared as of January 3. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) is now being prepared to establish terminals, docking points, and electrical boat charging stations.

Lucknow is currently experiencing a “bone-chilling” cold wave with temperatures dropping significantly below normal. On January 2, the city recorded a maximum temperature of just 14.6°C (5.5°C below normal) and a minimum of 8.6°C. Dense fog has severely impacted visibility, leading to the cancellation or diversion of multiple flights at the Lucknow airport and delays for over 100 trains in the region.

A new guided city tour service using double-decker electric buses is set to officially launch on January 7, 2026. The tour, starting from 1090 Chauraha, will cover major landmarks including Raj Bhavan, Hazratganj, The Residency, and the Gomti Riverfront. A mock trial was conducted on January 3 to finalize operational readiness for the two daily shifts.
