Mankameshwar Mandir
-
One of the oldest Shiva temples in Lucknow, it is located near the Daliganj Bridge. Legend says that Lord Lakshmana prayed to Lord Shiva at this very spot, and the temple was later built to honor the deity who “fulfills the desires of the mind” (Mankameshwar). The temple is famous for its ancient Shivling and for having the city’s first female chief priest (Mahant). The evening Aarti here is a deeply spiritual experience, with the rhythmic sound of bells and chanting echoing by the riverbank. It sees a massive influx of devotees on Mondays and during the festival of Mahashivratri.
